Use of funding

It goes without saying that research funds should be used consistent with the purpose for which they were allocated – that is, to undertake activities related to the research itself.
This is true whatever the source of funds, whether from internal or external sources. Different funders will vary to some extent, and contractual agreements are the best guide.
Misuse of funds at the more serious end of the scale could amount to fraud, with potentially serious consequences. Even so, less serious misuse may nevertheless attract disciplinary action.
