walking/writing blog series
'walking/writing on power and privlege' is a special series for the blog site of Space and Culture, which foregrounds new research writing at the intersectiosn of cultural geography, cultural studies, ethnography, communications, environmental studies and more. Guest edited by Amelia Walker, this special series features writings begun in a suite of writing workshops on practices of walking and writing to interrogate how power and privilege are woven in and through the spaces and places we traverse in everyday life. Walking is inclusively defined to incorporate a range of activities beyond walking as traditionally conceived.
The writings in this blog series raise awareness about issues of social justice and social inequity, particularly in relation to the oft-overlooked ways in which inequities of privilege, power, and social exclusion are subtly woven into everyday spaces and places. This series also raises awareness about techniques of writing as a mode of critical inquiry to raise and scrutinzse these problems, and thus to encourage social change towards more equitable modes of relation.
This project received no funding or financial support. However, we acknowledge support from the organisations who facilitated the workshops in which the blog posts were begun. These include the Storytelling for Justice online symposium hosted by the Meanjin-based Creative Arts Research Institute at Griffith University in February 2025, Writers SA, and CP3's own Critically Creative Reading and Writing Collective (CCRWC). We also thank Space and Culture for providing the platform for this publication.
