Fiona Tan: Ascent

The Samstag Museum of Art brings a concise selection of works by Fiona Tan to Adelaide. Centring upon the Australian premiere of Ascent, this is the first significant presentation of the artist’s work in our country in ten years.

Ascent is not only a reflection on Mount Fuji—a mountain of great significance to the Japanese—but also a study of its visual culture and a tribute to the history of both photography and film.

How do spaces of display affect our experience of moving image?
In a live cross from Amsterdam, hear from artist Fiona Tan followed by a discussion with James Nguyen, artist; Mat Kesting, Adelaide Film Festival; and Julianne Pierce, independent producer and critic. Register here.

Taking as a starting point the concept of architecture as a choreographer of experience, the 2020 Adelaide//International
will look to the ways in which built forms can make us aware of the social, spatial and temporal present.
