The Centre for Islamic Thought & Education (CITE) would like to invite you to a one day Symposium on Islamic Finance.

This Symposium will focus on current developments in the Islamic financial markets such as the recent turmoil associated with sukuks occasioned by the service default of a major UAE borrower and the doctrinal controversy that has set off. Also of interest are Australian regulatory constraints and entry barriers hampering the growth of Islamic financial products and services. In common with rapid developments in the broader financial marketplace, a further challenge to Islamic finance is whether the industry is able to withstand and stay abreast of such rapid changes. Other problems of interest are: vexed taxation and compliance issues facing the nascent industry in Australia and other countries with Muslim minorities; why competition remains a real problem for many Islamic finance providers operating either as mortgage brokers or tightly controlled financial intermediaries without the ability to raise funds in the money market.
