Duration

The Hawke Ambassador International Volunteer Experience program allows students to engage in an internship or placement program in South Australia, interstate or overseas for up to six weeks, worth 9 units (2 courses) in a relevant undergraduate program. 

Eligibility

The Hawke Professional Experience program is available as an elective* within several programs, including the Bachelor of Creative Industries, Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Journalism and Professional Writing and the Bachelor of Communication and Media.

To apply for the program, you must meet the following requirements:

  • A minimum of 36 units completed (i.e. first year completed).
  • The elective must not be undertaken in the final study period of your program.
  • Minimum GPA 4.5.
  • You must not have failed more than 9 units (two courses).

*You must have two electives in your programs.

As a prerequisite, students who participate in the program should:

  • Demonstrate empathy and an understanding of cultural difference
  • Have good health or a manageable health condition supported by a certificate from a registered medical practitioner, indicating that you would be able to participate in the program
  • Demonstrate excellent personal skills
  • Demonstrate a measure of self-reliance

Financial support

The University offers the opportunity to apply for an international mobility Travel Grant Scheme of up to $1000 to qualifying students.

You may be eligible for the OS-HELP loan and overseas study program for an amount of up to $7,998, depending on the destination. To find out if you are eligible for OS-HELP, visit the Australian Government’s Study Assist website.

Assessment 

Assessment for this program includes a research project. This is to be individually designed by the student, can take a multitude of forms (research essay, portfolio, documentary) and aims to contribute to the main areas of study.
