Invited presentation on progressing gender-responsive budgeting in Timor-Leste to the Prime Minister Xanana Gusmao and the Council of Ministers of the government of Timor-Leste, Parliament House, Dili, Timor-Leste.

The research team presented preliminary results of an assessment on how government expenditure could be better targeted to meet the educational needs of boys and girls and reduce gender gaps in school attendance. This assessment found that government spending on rural girls at pre-secondary and secondary school levels was particularly low in relation to their population share. This session involved the director for planning and policy, director for finance and members of the gender working group in the Timor-Leste Ministry of Education.

Monica Costa participated in the Australian Women's and Gender Studies Association (AWGSA) Conference – Emerging Spaces: New Possibilities in Critical Times organised by Flinders University, University of South Australia and Adelaide University. Monica discussed the role of the Women's Caucus in national parliament in gender-sensitive budgeting in Timor-Leste.

Professor Rhonda Sharp was invited by the government of Timor-Leste to present on the international trends of gender-responsive budgeting and its implications for Timor-Leste. This workshop involved all directors for planning in the government and was chaired by the Secretary of State for Promotion of Equality, Ms Idelta Rodrigues.

The research team was invited to contribute to a meeting of non-governmental organisations in Timor-Leste focused on the role of non-governmental organisations in current efforts to bring about gender-sensitive budgeting and planning in Timor-Leste. This meeting was organised in partnership with the UN Women's Office in Timor-Leste. Key non-governmental organisations engaged in gender-responsive budgeting were involved.

The research team presented preliminary results on the Timor-Leste education policy and funding. The team was joined by Timor-Leste visiting research officer Hermino Xavier of the Office of the Secretary of State for the Promotion of Gender Equality, Government of Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste. This seminar was organised in partnership with the Australian Institute for Social Research, Adelaide University.

This session aimed to highlight the potential and opportunities to expand gender-responsive budgeting in Australia.

Presentation on international experiences on gender-responsive budgeting and its implications for Indonesia. The session was organised and chaired by the Director of Gender Mainstreaming in the Indonesian Ministry of Women's Empowerment. The session included a presentation from the Head of Sub-Directorate of Budget Policy Harmonization, Indonesian Ministry of Finance.

Four days of workshops for key Learning Assistance Program for Islamic Schools (LAPIS) stakeholders. It aimed to introduce participants to the concepts, processes and procedures in gender-responsive programs and budgets, and to assist participants to develop skills and expertise in gender budgets analysis in education. The first workshop introduced the concepts, principles and tools for conducting a gender analysis of policies and their funding. In the second workshop participants applied a gender budget analysis to a project and its budget in their organisation.

Presentation and discussion on international trends in gender-responsive budgeting and its relevance to the Indonesian context. This session was chaired by the Deputy Chairperson for Indonesian Human Resources and Cultural Affairs and engaged members of the Steering Committee of the Indonesian Interdepartmental Committee on Gender-Responsive Planning and Budgeting. This session was organised and facilitated by the Canada–Indonesia Governance Reform Support Project (managed by Hickling).
