The Hawke EU Centre for Mobilities, Migrations and Cultural Transformations seeks to develop dialogue and cooperation between the European community and Australia in regards to matters of migration, asylum and refugee protection.

A special focus of the centre concerns the field of migration, asylum and protection issues, and related matters arising in the pursuance of the protection of citizens; the safeguarding of rights; the preservation of borders; and related matters of security and justice.

By pursuing a vigorous program of activities, the Hawke EU Centre’s primary mission is to directly address the political importance of planning and learning through bilateral dialogues, particularly in regard to our shared commitments to the respect and promotion of human rights, fundamental freedoms, democracy and the rule of law, to engage with the political, economic and cultural importance of the EU and its relationship with Australia.

The Hawke EU Centre is a research centre based within the portfolio of the Deputy Vice Chancellor and Vice President: External Relations and Strategic Projects.
