The effects of Illicit drugs on muscle activation in fatigue

  • Participants must be aged between 18 – 50 years
  • Participants with a history of cannabis, ecstasy, and/or methamphetamine use are invited to participate

The study will involve up to two experimental sessions, each lasting approximately 3.5 hours. You will be asked to provide a urine sample for routine drug screening and to complete a series of questionnaires and neurological tests. Your brain will then be stimulated painlessly with magnetic stimulation. The nerves that control your arm muscles will also be electrically stimulated and this may cause some brief discomfort. You will then be asked to perform sustained arm exercise to induce fatigue. Your blood pressure and the activity of your muscles will be recorded with a non-invasive blood pressure cuff and sticker electrodes on the skin.

All participants will be compensated for their time ($10 per hour).
