UniSA is seeking people with chronic lower back pain to take part in a free 12-week exercise program led by an experienced physiotherapist, which complies with current guidelines for best practice care.
Part 1: Online or paper questionnaires asking about your lower back pain, lifestyle, and overall health. One-on-one session of abdominal ultrasound and breathing tests at the Clinical Trials Facility Clinical Trials Facility, Level 1, Bonython Jubilee Building, Frome Road, City East campus of the University of South Australia.
Part 2: 12 weeks of a one-hour class - same time, day, and location (Mawson Lakes, Magill, or City East UniSA campuses) each week – with three people. The movements can be modified for each person’s abilities.
Part 3: The same as part 1 - Online or paper questionnaires and One-on-one session at the Clinical Trials Facility Clinical Trials Facility, Level 1, Bonython Jubilee Building, Frome Road, City East campus of the University of South Australia. There will also be a One-on-one interview to learn more about what you thought and felt about the program.
Approximate total time 15 hours.

Age 18+
Chronic (greater than 3 months) lower back pain most days of the week.
Attend Clinical Trials Facility, East Campus, University of South Australia for Parts 1 and 3.
Attend weekly classes for 12 weeks on the same day and time at the same UniSA campus (Mawson Lakes, Magill, or City East) for the 12 weeks.
Able to get on and off the floor without assistance.
No history of cancer, neuropathy or neurological signs (tingling, numbness), breathing issues (for example interstitial lung disease, heart failure, asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disorder), headaches or surgery within three months.
