Welcome to the Future

The world is currently facing many global challenges in areas including health, climate, energy, the environment and our diminishing natural resources. Here at the Future Industries Institute, we are tackling these issues through our innovative research, highly-skilled and engaged researchers, our industry partnerships and collaborative relationships. We encourage our researchers to seek solutions that are informed by real-world issues.  Our researchers work across the boundaries between industry, end users and academia, tackling scientific and engineering challenges that span from fundamental science to translational research.

We are proud of the outstanding quality of their world-class research as evidenced by Excellence in Research for Australia, where UniSA ranks as “Well above World Class” for 20 fields with FII researchers contributing to a number of these including Physical and Structural Chemistry, Environmental Science, Biochemistry and Cell Biology.

Our interdisciplinary research capacity is captured in the Institute’s 5 Sectors in which we work: High-Tech Manufacturing, Medical Technology, Healthy Environments, Sustainable Resources, and Smart Energy. Underpinned by our world class infrastructure and facilities including nodes of the Australian National Fabrication Facility and Microscopy Australia, our researchers are challenging the way in which research is done and aiming to improve the lives of people both now and in the future.
