Ian Olver & Kate Gunn

Led by Professor Ian Olver, the Psychosocial Oncology research group in the Centre for Translational Cancer Research, at the Cancer Research Institute, conduct research to find ways to improve the quality of life of people affected by cancer. The work aims to better understand how spiritual aspects of people's lives, can help influence the way they cope with the threat of cancer to themselves and their loved ones. It examines the importance of hope.

Research studies by this group, including Dr Kate Gunn, include a comparison of cancer survivors with other groups including patients with other chronic illnesses, carers and health professionals. Seeking to understand what influences quality of life, which encompasses physical, social, emotional and spiritual wellbeing, the findings will enable the development of interventions to improve the quality of life for survivors of cancer.
