Our mission

Australian Centre for Precision Health (ACPreH) brings together a multidisciplinary group of leading experts in genomics, population health and evidence translation, all committed to creating the next generation of solutions for health and well-being. Our goals are to prevent disease before it strikes, and to create innovative solutions for current problems. We do this by developing ways to improve risk prediction, risk factor discovery, and improvements in disease screening and health education. We have strong expertise in big data analytics, method development, and cutting-edge molecular biology techniques. We pioneer genomic medicine and conduct research to find solutions for overcoming genetic vulnerabilities affecting disease risk. We use machine learning and other innovative approaches to find new ways to prevent disease. We appreciate the importance of life-course trajectories and intergenerational influences on health. Our work informs the policy and practice of cancer screening and surveillance. We have a strong research track record on patient safety, quality and effectiveness of service delivery, and enhancing the appropriateness of services, clinical care and the allocation of resources. Our work explores the links between environmental and human health to develop new strategies for ensuring healthy people in healthy places, informed by engagement with key stakeholders.

At the Australian Centre for Precision Health (ACPeH) , we are committed to collaborating across disciplinary borders, and embracing novel technologies in striving towards the future of health.

With a focus on capacity building, we value research training and encourage the best and brightest students to higher degrees in precision and population health. As health professionals identify the need to become data specialists, able to assess large pools of information to tailor prevention and care for an individual, we will supply the evidence and expertise needed to meet these demands.

Our research will contribute to:

  1. knowledge gain – publishing in top peer review journals
  2. method development – extending current methods for genomic analyses and harnessing potential with advanced statistical tools including machine learning 
  3. evidence dissemination for population health practice, as well as health and social policy through numerous partnerships with health system leaders, community, NGOs, government and industry; and
  4. increasing capacity in precision health, policy and practice.
