Here you’ll find all the information you need to know about Year 12 admission, including UniSA Guaranteed Entry, which will secure your place into your preferred degree through your Selection Rank or Year 12 subject grades.
At UniSA, we will consider both your Year 12 subject grades and Selection Rank for entry into any eligible UniSA degrees in your SATAC application. There’s nothing more you need to do.
Remember if a UniSA degree is your preferred choice, then make sure it’s listed as your first preference.
You may be able to use your Year 12 results for entry into UniSA degrees even if you completed Year 12 more than two years ago! You'll be considered on your results as long as you have not completed more than two years of equivalent full time study at a higher education institution. Entry via Selection Rank
(ATAR + Adjustment Factors)
If you’re applying to university based on your Year 12 results, you’ll be selected for entry based on:
- Completing the SACE or an equivalent Year 12 qualification (including the International Baccalaureate diploma); and
- Achieving a competitive Selection Rank (ATAR + Adjustment Factors) and meeting any prerequisite or other essential admission requirements.
Entry via Year 12 Grades
At UniSA you may have guaranteed entry based on your three best Year 12 subject grades for most of our degrees. If you achieve the grades and you put us as your first preference, that’s it, you’re automatically in.
Remember:
- Subjects need to be 20-credit Stage 2 Tertiary Admission Subjects (TAS)
- Students need to achieve a minimum ATAR of 50
- Students must meet any additional eligibility criteria including prerequisite subjects

How do I apply for UniSA Guaranteed Entry?
By applying through SATAC, you’re automatically considered for UniSA Guaranteed Entry. This includes both Selection Rank Guaranteed Entry and Year 12 Grades Guaranteed Entry.
It’s also important to remember that listing your preferred UniSA degree as your first preference will give you the best chance of securing your place. The order of your preferences is how SATAC will make offers – by working down the list.

Where can I find the guaranteed scores for entry?
All UniSA Guaranteed Entry scores are reviewed annually – both by Selection Rank and Year 12 subject grades. What if the UniSA degree I’m applying for doesn’t have a guaranteed entry score?
Some of our high demand degrees may not offer UniSA Guaranteed Entry. This means applicants will be made offers in descending order of Selection Rank scores until all places are filled. The lowest Selection Rank that receives an offer into a degree is called the ‘cut-off’. The cut-off can vary each year depending on the number of applicants and places available.

Does UniSA Guaranteed Entry only apply to my first preference?
We will consider both your Year 12 subject grades and Selection Rank for entry into any eligible UniSA degree in your SATAC application. However, it is important to remember that if your UniSA preference is your preferred degree choice, then make sure it is listed as your first preference as this is the only way to guarantee an offer.

What if I’m not eligible for UniSA Guaranteed Entry?
If you don’t meet the UniSA Guaranteed Entry score, you’ll still be considered for competitive entry. Do I need to complete SACE and achieve an ATAR?
To be considered for UniSA Guaranteed Entry via your Year 12 grades, you’ll need to complete SACE Stage 2 and achieve a base ATAR of 50 (before Adjustment Factors are applied) and any prerequisites or other entry criteria for your preferred degree.

Are Year 12 subject grades considered before or after moderation?
The Year 12 subject grades considered for UniSA Guaranteed Entry are based on the final moderated SACE grades. Scaled scores are not used, therefore all 20-credit TAS subjects are weighted evenly.

Are any SACE Stage 2 subjects excluded?
Subjects must be 20-credit versions of Tertiary Admissions Subjects (TAS). This means that 10-credit versions will not count, not even as a pair. Most Stage 2 SACE subjects are TAS, but Modified and Local Program versions are typically non-TAS. Can I use a completed Certificate 3 for entry?
A completed Certificate 3 is not a 20-credit TAS subject and therefore cannot be used for guaranteed entry based on Year 12 subject grades.

Are interstate or IB subjects included?
Interstate Year 12 grades are considered for admission. Get in touch with our Future Student Enquiries team for more information.
IB results are not considered as part of Selection by Grades.

Does the combination of Year 12 grades matter?
Yes. For example, to secure guaranteed entry based on 3Bs, you’ll need to achieve a minimum of a B in three different subjects. Students with 2As and 1C, or other like combinations, may still be considered if there are places still available after all guaranteed offers have been made.

Is guaranteed entry based on straight letter grades?
Entry is based on the letter grade, including variations (e.g. plus and minus).

Can international students use their Year 12 subject grades?
UniSA Guaranteed Entry by Year 12 subject grades is available to internationals students studying their SACE in Australia or overseas.

Entry with the International Baccalaureate
To be eligible for entry through the International Baccalaureate (IB), students are required to have:
- Qualified for their IB diploma, achieving a minimum IB score of 24 points;
- Achieved an equivalent competitive Selection Rank (ATAR + Adjustment Factors); and
- Obtained the required grades for any prerequisite subjects as listed below.

Are you applying to study at UniSA using your interstate year 12 qualifications? If so, here’s some information you'll need to know.

Entry for International Year 12 students
If you’re an international student who has studied their final year of high school in South Australia, you can use your Year 12 results to apply for a UniSA degree, much like a domestic student.
Applications are completed through SATAC.

Adjustment Factors
For Year 12 Applicants, SATAC may automatically add Adjustment Factors to your university aggregate to calculate your Selection Rank. Alternative entry pathways
UniSA College
UniSA College offers a range of pathway programs to help you gain alternative entry into university. If you don’t have the qualifications to gain direct entry into your preferred bachelor’s degree, we’re here to help.

Our programs include:
- Foundation Studies is a free*, six-month program that will allow you to study core courses to develop critical writing, research, and overall study skills. This program is also a great option to put down as your preference six in case you don’t qualify for your higher preferences. Successful completion of Foundation Studies guarantees entry into Undergradate Certificates and Diplomas with UniSA, regardless of GPA.
- Diplomas are one year of full-time study and will offer up to two subjects as credit toward your future degree. Our Diplomas offer 21 specialisations across areas in Business, Creative Studies, Education Studies, Health, Social Sciences and STEM.
- Undergraduate Certificates in University Studies are six-month programs with specialisations in Business, Creative Studies, Education Studies, Health, Social Sciences and STEM. This pathway option is ideal if you first complete UniSA Foundation Studies or enrol in a UniSA or UniSA Online degree but find you are interested in exploring a different discipline.
- Aboriginal Pathway Program is a free*, one-year program specifically designed for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students with no previous qualifications, which enables you to competitively apply for your preferred UniSA degree using your Grade Point Average (GPA).

Previous Year 12 Study
If you’ve completed high school previously, you may be eligible to gain entry into your preferred UniSA degree using your Year 12 results regardless of when you graduated. Your Selection Rank is valid up until you complete two-years of university study.
TAFE/VET

Tertiary Transfer
If your Year 12 results were lower than expected, you have the option of starting a different degree then using your competitive Grade Point Average (GPA) to transfer into your first preference. You can do this after completing four courses, which is typically one full-time study period at UniSA or another recognised higher education institution. Students are also able to transfer into different degrees if they change their mind, using their competitive GPA and after completing a minimum of four courses.
Special Tertiary Admissions Test (STAT)
If you don't have a competitive result from Year 12, VET or previous university study, you may qualify for special entry into your preferred UniSA degree by choosing to sit the STAT – 70 multiple choice questions designed to assess your aptitude for tertiary study. Your results will be used to create a ranking that you can then use to compete for entry with other special entry applicants. To be eligible, you must be aged over 18 years by 1 February (or 1 July for midyear entry) in the year you wish to commence your study.
