Restless Dance Theatre is Australia’s leading dance theatre company working with artists with and without disability. Their artistic voice is loud, strong and original. In the past 6 years the Company has presented award winning works in Festival contexts nationally and internationally.
Join Michelle Ryan, Artistic Director of Restless, together with Dr Boram Lee and the dancers, as they introduce you to the work of the Company. They will provide a unique insight into the making of an exciting new dance piece, Correlation, being developed between Restless and South Korean Dance Company, LSF (Light Sound Friends). The session will be facilitated by Dr Maggie Tonkin.
Restless, as a Company, has been one of the leaders of the development of disability culture in Australia for the last 30 years. Their collaborative working methods have pioneered the expression of this culture in a distinctive movement language. Correlation will use this language to create a cross-cultural celebration of diversity. This non-verbal dance theatre work will eloquently address and express the dancer’s individual voices allowing audience members to reassess both dance, disability and differing cultures at the one time.
This event will be presented LIVE in the University of South Australia's Allan Scott Auditorium. REGISTRATIONS ARE ESSENTIAL. All individuals will be required to ‘check in’ to the venue upon arrival using the South Australian Government’s official COVID Safe Check-In process.
This event will be live-streamed to South Korea.

MICHELLE RYAN
ARTISTIC DIRECTOR, RESTLESS DANCE THEATRE
Michelle Ryan has enjoyed a career that has spanned over 30 years in the arts. Michelle was appointed Artistic Director of Restless Dance Theatre in 2013 and has created major works for the company for presentation in festivals both nationally and internationally.
Intimate Space received a Ruby Award for Arts Innovation and Enterprise, an Adelaide Critics Award for Best Professional Group and nominations for a Helpmann Award (in both 2017 and 2018) and Ruby nominations for Best New Work and Best Touring Work.
Michelle celebrates diversity in all elements of her work.
Michelle was the recipient of the 2020 Australia Council for the Arts Dance Award.

SENIOR LECTURER, ARTS AND CULTURAL MANAGEMENT, UNIVERSITY OF SOUTH AUSTRALIA
Dr Boram Lee is a Senior Lecturer in Arts and Cultural Management, University of South Australia who has led a project called Connect2abilities. By ‘connecting people to people’, Connect2Abilities provides a platform fostering cross-cultural engagement and collaboration for artists in Australia and South Korea, both with and without disabilities, to pave the way for inclusive long-term partnerships.
DR MAGGIE TONKIN
SENIOR LECTURER, ENGLISH AND CREATIVE ARTS, UNIVERSITY OF ADELAIDE
Dr Maggie Tonkin is a Senior Lecturer in English and Creative Arts at the University of Adelaide. As well as teaching and researching in literary studies, she is a dance critic and scholar. She has reviewed and written for the national industry magazine, Dance Australia, for almost twenty years, and is the author of FIFTY: Half a Century of Australian Dance Theatre, a history of Australia’s oldest contemporary dance company (Wakefield, 2016). She has served on a number of dance judging panels and is currently researching the creative practice of seminal Australian choreographer Meryl Tankard.

LSF - LIGHT SOUND FRIENDS
SOUTH KOREAN DANCE COMPANY
LSF is striving to cultivate Korean dancers with disability through a professional and systematic dance training called MADE (Mix Abled Dance Education), as well as to train professional instructors to work with dancers with disability. LSF's flagship project since 2016, the annual Korea International Accessible Dance Festival (KIADA), aims to become a platform for dancers with disability around the world, and is spreading its renown and the value of dancing with disability.
