ESOS: Changing your enrolment

If you defer, suspend or cancel your enrolment this may result in the cancellation of your Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE) and this may affect your student visa.

How to defer, suspend or cancel your enrolment:

  • Deferring your studies – If you wish to defer your commencement date of study you must obtain written approval from the University. Please contact us and quote your Applicant ID as well as the reasons for your request.
  • Suspending your studies – If you wish to suspend your program of studies (e.g. take a leave of absence) you must obtain written approval from the University. This is only allowed in very limited compassionate circumstances. Please refer to the University's Enrolment Policy for more information. 
  • Cancelling your enrolment –If you wish to withdraw or cancel your program you must give the University written notification. If you are a new/commencing student please contact us and quote your Applicant ID as well as the reasons for your request. For continuing students, please complete a Withdrawal Form .
  • Changing your program or education provider - If you wish to change providers within your first 6 months of study, you will need to apply for Release Letter from the University. If you have been granted a student visa (subclass 500) and wish to change programs to a lower AQF level (e.g. Masters to Bachelors), you will need to first apply to DIBP for a new student visa. Some reasons the University may need to defer, suspend or cancel your CoE:

  • Failure to enrol
  • Under-enrolment
  • Failure to enrol in accordance with your study plan
  • Studying more than 25% of your program in external mode
  • Approved leave of absence
  • Unsatisfactory academic performance (e.g. preclusion)
  • Misbehaviour (e.g. academic, research or student misconduct)
  • Non-payment of fees
  • Student visa refusal

For Research Degree students:

  • Changing enrolment from internal to external mode
  • Administrative withdrawal
  • Suspension or termination
