Leaders across the fields of politics, fashion and health who have made outstanding contributions to the community will be acknowledged for their achievements tonight as the University of South Australia hosts its second ever Alumni Awards.

This year’s award recipients include former Premier of South Australia: The Honourable Dr Dean Brown AO, Leader of the Opposition in the Senate and Shadow Minister for Foreign Affairs; Senator The Honourable Penny Wong, the CEO of the Congress of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Nurses and Midwives; Janine Mohamed and Editor-in-Chief, Vogue China; Angelica Cheung.

The awards, which were established last year, have become an annual recognition of the contribution that UniSA graduates are making to their communities locally, nationally and internationally.

Congratulating this year’s award recipients, UniSA Vice Chancellor, Professor David Lloyd described UniSA’s graduates as global ambassadors for an institution whose global reach is expanding.

“In our 25th anniversary year our growth as a globally visible university is an achievement made possible through our strong network of UniSA graduates. Around the world they have helped to create our success, having studied with us, and are now guiding their careers to new heights,” Prof Lloyd says.

“There are now almost 200,000 graduates from UniSA and its antecedent institutions who are using their skills, capabilities and innovation potential to drive the economies of this nation and many others around the world.

“As brand ambassadors and as role models for the students going through the system now our alumni deserve every acknowledgement for their success and today the spotlight shines on four of our best.

“Their achievements are inspirational and their contribution to society is distinguished. Congratulations to Dean Brown, Senator Wong, Janine Mohamed and Angelica Cheung.”
