Mobilong Radio Prison Project, supported by the Department of Correctional Services SA

In April 2017, Dr Heather Anderson and Dr Charlotte Bedford (University of Adelaide) conducted an action research community project at Mobilong Prison, which was funded by a Department of Correctional Services SA Community Grant.

Through a series of workshops, a group of 10 prisoners developed a short series of radio features to support the induction of new arrivals to Mobilong Prison. These features were collated into 50-minute CD, addressing themes that participants had identified as important to the settling-in process in prison, including education and recreation options, support services and visits, and health and well-being.

The Mobilong Prison Radio pilot project was highly successful in achieving its objectives – to produce audio to support the induction of new prisoners, and to investigate the potential of prison radio at Mobilong by introducing some basics of radio production to interested participants.  A full report on this project and its outcomes can be found here.
