Gender and Society

The Centre’s focus on gender involves research on gender relations and sexualities. Core areas of enquiry include domestic violence; equity and work;  gender and its relation and interrelationships with key social aspects of the self  including, class,  disability, Indigeneity, ageing, ethnicities and sexualities. Recent projects include:

  • an examination of how domestic violence erodes women’s citizenship
  • impacts of domestic violence on mothering
  • practice based approaches to working with men to change violent behaviours
  • experiences of family and work for women living in rural communities
  • gendered hierarchies of work and skilling in rural organisations
  • community consultations informing practices for Aboriginal families experiencing violence and abuse
  • homelessness and sexualities
  • ageing and sexualities
  • ageing and anti-ageing
  • rural leadership among Turkish and Muslim women in Australia and the Netherlands
