Student access plan
An Access Plan provides information about the impact of a students disability, mental health or medical condition on their studies, identifies agreed services that will be provided by Access & Inclusion Services and any alternative exam adjustments. The Access Plan helps students to negotiate reasonable adjustments with University staff so they can study successfully at UniSA.
Student's disability or medical information remains their private information. Only information students choose to release within the University goes into their Access Plan. By providing information to staff about the impact of their disability at university, it can help staff in assisting student's with their studies.
No information about a student's disability, mental health or medical condition is passed outside the University without a student's consent.

An access plan is used to:
- Document information about the impact of a disability, mental health or medical condition on a student's studies
- Document the services to be provided
- Document any agreed variation to exam arrangements
- Assist students in negotiating reasonable adjustments with University staff
An access plan is based on:
- Information provided by the student to the Access & Inclusion Service.
- Documentation from an appropriately qualified practitioner.
- Information provided by relevant services (i.e. Royal Society for the Blind).
- Information provided by relevant University staff.
Who gets to see the access plan?
- An Access Plan is a tool for students to use in negotiating arrangements with academic staff in courses, so students decide who will see it.
- Students are provided with hard copies and an electronic copy of their Access Plan so that they can use it to inform University staff about their requirements.
- A copy is sent to the Program Director for information.
- Student's disability or medical information remains their private information. Only information students choose to release within the University goes into the Access Plan.
- The Access Plan documents the impact of a student's disability on their studies, and does not go into detail about what the disability, mental health or medical condition is.
- The Access Plan is a tool for students to use in negotiating arrangements with academic staff. In order to be eligible for services students need to have an Access Plan.
Updating an access plan
An Access Plan can be updated at any time. This may be necessary due to changes in the impact of the disability. If a student's condition is fluctuating or temporary, the Access Plan will have an expiry date and will need to be updated. Students who are seeking to make changes to alternative exam arrangements must check the important dates outlined on the alternative exam arrangements webpage to ensure updates to their Access Plan are in place before the exam period.
To update an Access Plan, students should make an appointment with a Access & Inclusion Advisor. Students can book an appointment here. Students will need their student ID to make an appointment online. Alternatively students can make a booking by contacting Campus Central by email, calling 1300 301 703 or simply dropping in to their nearest Campus Central. Appointments can be face to face or by phone. Students may need to provide updated Treating Practitioner documentation. The Access & Inclusion Advisor will be able to advise if this is necessary.
