Samstag Museum of Art will stay open until 8pm as part of the City of Adelaide’s ‘Good Evening, Adelaide’. Our friends at JamFactory Contemporary Craft and Design, Australian Experimental Art Foundation, Mercury Cinema and Feast Festival just a hop, skip and jump away in the Lion Arts Centre courtyard, are also opening late. Veggie Velo serving up delicious burgers in Fenn Place from 5pm, so stay tuned on our Facebook page for more info and giveaways.

Wednesday 25, Thursday 26 + Friday 27 September

Join us at the Samstag Museum of Art for one of three performances, over three nights, for the world premiere of the Australian Dance Theatre’s Nought. Choreographed by Adelaide-born Australian Dance Theatre dancer Daniel Jaber, Nought is an experiential performance where the audience is taken through a process of discovery, ending with a poignant insight into the dancing body and the dancer’s fragility. 

Sunday 18 August

Visitors to the Anne & Gordon Samstag Museum of Art for UniSA’s Open Day this Sunday will be treated to Gabriella Smart’s performance on a toy piano of a five minute piece from renowned American composer Alvin Curran’s Inner Cities, a five hour piano cycle which she will perform in its entirety on Saturday 24 August at Bonython Hall. Crowd Theory Adelaide Soundstream Collective Concert. Enjoy an intimate musical performance by Canadian Eric Soucy (viola) and Peter Handsworth (clarinet) who explore themes of personal and social identity from Simon Terrill’s Crowd Theory Adelaide exhibition, in a special concert playing: Clarke, Duo for clarinet and viola; Stravinsky, Three pieces for solo clarinet and Bach, Partita for solo viola.

Lunchtime Art Forum, Samstag Museum of Art invites you to join us for an open forum drawing on unDisclosed: 2nd National Indigenous Art Triennial and its various themes and issues as a springboard for a discussion to address some of the broader issues surrounding Indigenous art, culture and contemporary Australia. Led by Tina Baum, Curator Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Art, National Gallery of Australia, anyone with an interest in Indigenous Australia is invited to come and join the forum.

Laurie Anderson performs her iconic Duets on Ice on the opening evening of the Adelaide Festival and the launch of the Laurie Anderson, The Language of the Future Selected works 1971 – 2013 exhibition at the Samstag Museum of Art. 

Wednesday 27 February

Crowd Theory Adelaide event at Victoria Square/Tarntanyangga from 7pm. With the use of film lights, a sound track and a large project team, the event will be captured on film with a large format camera, resulting in a mural sized photographs, which will then be exhibited at the Samstag Museum from May – July 2013. Anyone who has an attachment to the Square, current, recent or historical is invited to be a part of the image. It’s entirely up to you how you with to represent yourself, all you need to do is be there on the night.
