Venture into outer space these school holidays with a Planetarium experience. Enjoy a tour of the cosmos guided by one of the Planetarium’s experienced astronomers and watch the mysteries of our solar system unravel on the dome-shaped ceiling.

Did you know?
The highest mountain and volcano of any of the known planets is on Mars. It is called Olympus Mons and, being almost 22km tall, is three times the size of Mount Everest.

Important notes

  • Please arrive 10-15 minutes prior to the session commencement to register and be seated comfortably and to avoid disappointment as entry into the planetarium once the session has started is NOT permitted for safety reasons.
  • Everyone entering the Planetarium requires a ticket and all children must be accompanied and supervised by a responsible adult. Children under the age of 16 will not be admitted into the Planetarium without an accompanying adult. *Please see note below for children under 4.
  • If you are attending with a companion card, please phone/email the Planetarium before booking to make sure there are seats available.
  • Please ensure you have paid for your parking if you are parking in ML6 car park or along University Blvd. Parking meter located on the south western corner of the MM Bldg (white bldg next to the Planetarium). Parking is free after 6pm weekdays.
  • No food and drink to be consumed inside the Planetarium.
  • Use of mobile phones, electronic devices and photography are prohibited inside the Planetarium.
  • Prams are not permitted in the Planetarium.
  • COVID-19 - while face masks are no longer mandatory, we do recommend masks are worn as extra protection while inside the Planetarium where visitors are unable to physically distance.
  • *Please note the Planetarium is not suitable for children under 4 years old. If you do bring younger children, we request that they sit on your lap, and you place yourself closer to the door. As a courtesy to other patrons, if your child becomes restless and noisy, we ask that you please exit the Planetarium. We have a foyer area for patrons who will be caring for younger siblings.

Planetarium experience with a fulldome movie - 60mins

Our school holiday sessions will take you on a captivating journey across the Universe. Join one of our highly experienced astronomers as they guide you through constellations, the Solar System and beyond. Marvel at the immense scale of the universe and observe the breathtaking beauty of the night skies projected on the domed ceiling.  The general sessions run for 60mins and feature a fulldome movie.  Family fun to suit all ages!  Tickets $12 per person

Advanced Planetarium experience with a fulldome movie - 90mins

Be taken on an immersive guided tour of the night sky as our astronomer takes you on a journey through space.  Learn about the stars and the many constellations we see during our voyage around the Sun.  Session includes a fulldome movie and telescope viewing after the Planetarium *weather permitting. Telescope viewing not suitable for children under 7 years of age and please note it is not wheelchair accessible.  Tickets $20 per person

Moon

90min - All About the Moon *NEW*

Join us for an unforgettable celestial adventure under the domed skies of our Planetarium. Our astronomer will guide you through the moon's fascinating history, exploring its impact on mythology, culture, and science.  Witness the phases of the moon in real-time, from the waxing crescent to the full moon, and gain a deeper understanding of the celestial mechanics that govern Earth's closet neighbour.

Whether you're a seasoned stargazer or a curious novice, our Moon session offers an awe-inspiring experience that will leave you with newfound appreciation for the beauty and significance of our celestial companion.

Tickets $20 per person. Recommended age 12+

The solar system

A Journey through the Solar System

This session takes you on an incredible journey through our solar system. We reveal close up the Sun, the Planets and their moons, asteroids and comets, and plunge into the Kuiper belt. Discover the hidden beauty of our celestial home and see it in wavelengths not visible to the unaided eye. This session includes a fulldome movie. A must for the whole family.

Tickets $20.00 per person. Recommended for ages 8+

90mins - Black Holes: Bending Space and Time

NOT AVAILABLE FOR APRIL SCHOOL HOLIDAYS.

Black holes are the strangest objects in the universe.  What exactly is a black hole?  How big are they and how big can they get?  There's only one way to find out... This session includes a fulldome movie. 

Tickets $20.00 per person. Recommended age 10+

Space School for Kids

VR FEATURE

Our Space School is back for the 2024 April School Holidays and includes a Virtual Reality experience that will take kids out of this world!

Drop your kids off for a 4-hour fun-filled space session where they will learn about the solar system, learn about stars and make constellations, plus a fulldome movie.  Tickets $40.00 per person.  Age 7-12. 

A drink bottle, snacks and packed lunch required.

*Parent/guardian are not required to stay, however, if parent/guardian wish to stay for part of or the whole duration of this session, you are welcome to.
