Saturday Public Sessions at the Adelaide Planetarium

The Adelaide Planetarium holds 1pm sessions on the first and third Saturday of every month.

This session time features a condensed Night Sky presentation followed by a full dome movie which will be both educational and entertaining!

 

The first Saturday of the Month at 1.00pm

Night Sky + Wildest Weather in the Solar System Full Dome movie

On the first Saturday of every month the Adelaide Planetarium presents a 25-minute planetarium Night Sky presentation, followed by a full dome 20-minute National Geographic movie, Wildest Weather in the Solar System. Perfect for keeping the kid’s entertained.

Suitable for 8+ years old

Running Time: approx 50 minutes

Admissions and Bookings

*Please note the Planetarium is not suitable for children under 4.  If you do bring younger siblings, we request that children who become restless and noisy please exit the Planetarium with their guardian as a courtesy to

  • Please arrive 10 minutes prior to the session commencement to be seated comfortably and to avoid disappointment as there will be NO entry into the planetarium once the session has started. 
  • All children must be accompanied by an adult. 
  • Prams are not permitted in the Planetarium. All sessions require a certain number of bookings to go ahead.

The third Saturday of the Month at 1.00pm

Night Sky + Tycho to the Moon Full Dome Movie

On the third Saturday of each month, the Adelaide Planetarium presents a 25-minute Planetarium Night Sky presentation, followed by a full dome 20-minute animated children’s movie called Tycho to the Moon. This session is specially tailored to a younger audience.

Suitable for 4-8 years old

 Running Time: approx 50  minutes

Tycho to the Moon

Tycho to the Moon is a movie produced especially for the kids - shown on the Planetarium 360 degree full digital dome. Tycho is the dog that doesn't just howl at the moon…he goes there. Blast off on an amazing ride with Tycho and his friends, Ruby and Michael on a great adventure in space. Learn about night and day, phases of the moon, space travel and the lunar surface. See what it is like to play in zero gravity, watch meteors shoot across the night sky, witness earth from space and get a close up look at the sun.

Saturday Afternoon Sessions - 1hr Night Sky

Looking for something to do on a Saturday afternoon, why not take a trip to Adelaide’s only Planetarium at UniSA’s Mawson Lakes Campus.

The Adelaide Planetarium projects a replica of the night sky onto a domed ceiling and can be used to show the position of constellations, stars and planets. The audience is taken on an immersive guided tour of the solar system and the universe as our highly experienced presenter takes you on a journey through space. 

Visitors learn about the origins of the stars and constellation names, utilising traditional star lore and mythology.  Particular emphasis is placed on the names of stars and constellations, a description of what you could see if you went outside on a clear night.

Running Time: 60 minutes
