Malaysia Alumni Reunion Dinner – 28 June 2018
Alumni and special guests joined the President: Malaysia Alumni Chapter, Colin Song, Deputy Vice Chancellor: External Relations and Strategic Projects, Nigel Relph and members of senior management at the University of South Australia's Malaysia Alumni Reunion Dinner held at the InterContinental Kuala Lumpur on June 28.
Guests had the opportunity to catch up with fellow alums over dinner. Colin Song, Malaysia Chapter President, was recognised for his 5 year commitment to the Business School Online Mentoring program. Mr. Nigel Relph also thanked the Malaysian Chapter Committee members for all that they do towards a successful Chapter and Reunion dinner.
Leadership Challenges in the Future – 6 March 2018
The UniSA Malaysia Chapter held a half day Leadership & Career Development Workshop in partnership with AsiaAus Leaders and Tan Chong Education Services, facilitated by AsiaAus Leaders Director, Cath Duncan. Participants learned some new strategies for them as leaders to help them negotiate the rapidly changing world of work.

Alumni and special guests joined the President: Malaysia Alumni Chapter, Colin Song, Deputy Vice Chancellor : Research and Innovation, Professor Tanya Monro and members of senior management at the University of South Australia's Malaysia Alumni Reunion Dinner held at the Grand Millennium Hotel in Kuala Lumpur on July 30.
Guests were entertained by a violinist and had the opportunity to catch up with fellow alums over dinner. Official guests joining the Deputy Vice Chancellor were Ir Yeong Chee Meng FUniSA who was awarded the 2017 Vice Chancellor's International Alumni Leadership Award, and Malaysia Alumni Chapter committee members.
UniSA 25th Birthday Malaysia Alumni Dinner

Alumni and special guests joined the Vice Chancellor and President, Professor David Lloyd, Chancellor, Jim McDowell, and members of senior management at the University of South Australia's 25th Birthday dinners held in Asia recently.
The dinner in Malaysia was held at the Neo Tamarind Restaurant in Kuala Lumpur on 15 July and official guests joining the Vice Chancellor included Damian Hickey, representing the High Commissioner to Malaysia, Susan Kahwati, Senior Trade Commissioner at the Australian Trade Commission, and University fellow Ir Chee Meng Yeong FUniSA. Chapter President, Datuk Dr Noel Robert was joined by past presidents Raj Kumar and Lee Wan Ling and members of the committee.
Beyond Baking - Malaysia Chapter's Baking Class, 26 March 2016
It was a fantastic start for the new UniSA Malaysian Alumni Chapter President, Datuk Noel Robert, as he launched the first program for 2016 – Corporate Baking and Bonding Program on 26th Marc 2016 at Malaysian Institute of Baking.
Thirty Four participants from UniSA's Malaysia Alumni Chapter, together with invited guests from Adelaide and Flinders universities, participated in this fun filled 'learning to bake' program. This fully sponsored program was put together and made possible through the supreme efforts of our Vice President, Raymond Chan, and the CEO of Malaysian Institute of Baking, Mr Vera - who is himself a graduate of UniSA.
Malaysia Chapter Annual General Meeting
On Saturday 17th January 2016 Datuk Dr Noel Robert was elected as the new President.
The immediate past President Joanna Liao had this to say to the members and her committee.
"Thank you to all our Chapter members who attended the AGM. I would like to say a Big Thank You to all members who have given me the support and encouragement in my tenure as President for the past 2 years. It has been a privilege serving in the alumni.
"I would like to welcome the new committee for 2016. Congratulations and wishing you a great 2016. Have Fun!"

Celebrating South Australia's relationship with Malaysia
The Hon Jay Weatherill, Premier of South Australia, and the Vice Chancellors of the University of South Australia, Flinders University and The University of Adelaide hosted a gala dinner in Kuala Lumpur on 19 August to mark the 60th anniversary of Australia's diplomatic presence in Malaysia and honour the strong relationship and educational ties between Malaysia and South Australia. 2015 Malaysia Alumni Reunion dinner
Vice Chancellor and President, Professor David Lloyd, and Chancellor, Dr Ian Gould AM were among special guests, alumni and members of senior management who attended the University of South Australia alumni reunion on Saturday 20 June at the Tamarind Hill Restaurant in Kuala Lumpur.
More than 70 guests, including Chapter president Ms Joanna Liao and the committee, together with past presidents Mr Cheng Wai Kok, Mr Raj Kumar and Ms Lee Wan Ling attended the dinner. Official guests joining the Vice Chancellor and Chancellor included Ms Susan Kahwati, Senior Trade Commissioner, Austrade Singapore, Ms Petronila Maurice, Deputy Director, Australian Education International and University fellow Mr Ir Chee Meng Yeong FUniSA.
Malaysia Alumni Reunion
Vice Chancellor and President, Professor David Lloyd, and Chancellor, Dr Ian Gould AM were among hundreds of special guests, alumni and members of senior management who attended the University of South Australia alumni reunion in Malaysia on Saturday 5 July at the Club in the G Tower in Kuala Lumpur.
The reunion also marked the 15th anniversary of the UniSA Alumni Association of Malaysia. Professor Lloyd showed appreciation for the work of the alumni association in building networks of alumni who, through their successes, provide inspiration to students and new graduates.
“You become part of the education process by mentoring students and offering placement opportunities within your own companies so that they can put their skills to work and learn from you at the same time,” he said.
Professor Lloyd presented a plaque commemorating the 15th anniversary of the University of South Australia Alumni Association Malaysia to the founding Chapter President Mr Radha Krishnan Menon and the current President, Ms Joanna Liao.
Immediate past President Mr Cheng Wai Kok was presented with a plaque commemorating his 10 years of service to the Alumni Association and the University. Cheng served as Association President for four years until March 2014. His work with the broader Australian alumni community will continue with his recent appointment as Council Member of the Malaysia Australia Alumni Council.
Among the VIPs attending were Malaysia Chapter Patron Mr Ir Yeong Chee Meng FUniSA and past Chapter presidents, Ms Lee Wan Ling and Mr Raj Kumar Balamanickam.
Durian feast at Broga Farm
The University of South Australia Malaysia Alumni Association Committee organised an 'eat-all-you-can' durian feast visit to Broga Farm on June 14th with 17 members and guests attending.
Malaysia Chapter visits Rumah Juara PJ
Members of the University of South Australia Alumni Association of Malaysia visited Rumah Juara PJ in January.
Rumah Juara was established in 1998 to provide a home for orphans and abused and under-privileged children from ages 3-19 years old. Thank you to all who donated bedding, stationery and treats to the children.
Healthy Diet and Lifestyle seminar
Ms Wong Wen Yin, Head of Dietetic Unit at Pantai Hospital in KL, presented a seminar, Healthy Diet for a Healthy Lifestyle for members of the University of South Australia Alumni Association of Malaysia and their families and friends on 28 September. Free Blood pressure, BMI and other health
check-ups were available on the day.
University of South Australia Malaysia Chapter members got together to experience the rush of go-karting at Shah Alam City Karting Circuit on Saturday, 24 August. Team UniSA scored second and ninth placings - the wooden kart prize - out of nine participating teams.
Alumni event - test drive Nissan's latest hybrid car
Alumni, family and friends had the opportunity to test drive Nissan's latest hybrid car at an information event about Malaysian Automotive policy and the direction of the car industry on Saturday, 17 August.
Annual bowling event
Chapter members and friends enjoyed some action at their Annual Bowling Event, which was held on Saturday,
20 July at the Tropicana Golf & Country Club.
2013 Malaysia Alumni Reunion Dinner
More than 90 alumni and guests attended the annual reunion of the University of South Australia Alumni Association Malaysia on Saturday, 29 June at the exclusive Petroleum Club in Kuala Lumpur.
Students experience Kuala Lumpur through the eyes of Malaysian alumni
In March the University's Malaysia Chapter Committee hosted a dinner at Saloma restaurant in Kuala Lumpur for University of South Australia students participating in an intensive two-week Global Experience Professional Development course in Malaysia. They treated the Australian visitors to a stunning cultural display and provided them with an opportunity to network with local UniSA alumni.
Bachelor of Management (Logistics and Supply Chain Management) student Hamish Dowd thanked the Malaysian Chapter for their time and hospitality.
'This study tour has opened my eyes to a truly beautiful Asian neighbour of ours and I look forward to visiting and hopefully working in Malaysia in the future.'
