An Insight into Cultural Competency

The workshop aims to increase students’ cultural capabilities by providing participants the opportunity to explore what is culture and the cultural competency continuum. Participants have an opportunity to reflect on their own cultures and how perceptions and understandings of culture, both of their own and that of others, impact how we interact with those around us.

Participants will explore an overview Australian history including past policies and acts affecting Aboriginal people, the diversity of Aboriginal peoples, concepts of Aboriginal health including the health status and Close the Gap, and work through a health related case studies.

A previous attendee stated 'the workshop was very informative, delivered in a positive learning environment. I learnt that cultural competency is an ongoing and life long journey'.
