Natural Resources Management Council

The NRM council is the peak body in South Australia www.nrm.sa.gov.au  It published the State NRM plan in 2005 and this has implications for all South Australians. The long term aim of the plan it to lay the foundations for ‘ a capable and prosperous community that is managing natural resources within the capacity of our environment to sustain a good quality of life. 

The plan is in accordance with the Natural Resources Management Act 2004 and all sectors were consulted when it was drafted.  

Prof McKay was appointed in August 2006 for expertise in national and international water management and laws and has provided this statement to the council, "The natural resources of Australia are fragile and showing stress in many places. The urgency is to build on existing innovative institutions to arm current users with conflict resolution measures to enable sound long term resource decisions to be made”
