Ian Davey Thesis Prize 2007

Dr Diwakara Halanaik has been awarded the inaugural Ian Davey Research Thesis Prize awarded for the most outstanding Doctor of Philosophy thesis passed annually.

About Thesis: The thesis was primarily supported by a University of South Australia Presidents scholarship and the CRC for Irrigation Futures for the Australian field work and Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research for the Indian Field work in Meshana Gurajat. 

Dr Steve Barnett Hydrogeologist DWLDC, Dr R Maria Saleth of the International Water Management Institute and Viksat NGO also provided essential support.

Extract: Water economist Dr Diwakara Halanaik is the winner of the inaugural Ian Davey Research Thesis Prize for the most outstanding PhD thesis.  The perpetual prize was recently established by former Pro Vice Chancellor of Research, Emeritus Professor Ian Davey, to recognise excellence in research and research education. 

"Over the 12 years I’d spent in charge of research and research education, the University had been very good for me," Prof Davey said. "I thought I should establish something that would continue to recognise excellence in those areas."
