Tomorrow…
4 people will be born.
Every second.
2 will die.
Every second.
Nearly 5,000 children will die from diarrhoea.
Over 600 million will be coping with a disability.
Over 40% will live without basic sanitation.
Tomorrow…
Half the global population will suffer from poor nutrition.
Of that half, 50% will eat too little.
While 50% will eat too much.
Tomorrow…
The equivalent of two footy fields of rainforest will be destroyed.
Every second.
One species will become extinct.
Every 10 minutes.
This is the largest mass extinction since the dinosaurs.
Humankind will produce over 70 million tonnes of CO2.
Nearly half the world’s major rivers will be badly polluted or going
dry.
Tomorrow…
The number of text messages sent will exceed the population of the
planet.
There will be over one billion Google searches.
1 million electronic gadgets will be scrapped.
Yet a quarter of humanity will live without electricity.
Tomorrow…
Only 12% will have a computer.
Only 3% will have internet connection.
3,000 books will be published.
But nearly a billion people won’t be able to read.
And only 7% will be educated to secondary level.
This is the world you’ll wake up to tomorrow.
Together, how can we make a difference?
Tomorrow…
A small implant will monitor all your vital signs.
Cornea transplants will be as simple as fitting a contact lens.
We’ll send capsules into the body to release drugs precisely where
they’re needed.
Tomorrow…
Native plants will help to control infection.
We’ll monitor older people’s medicines so they enjoy better health.
Everyday food will help protect you from diabetes and heart disease.
Tomorrow…
Disadvantaged kids will gain equality through education.
Parental leave will be paid
Expectant mums will know what to eat.
So when baby turns 50, they’ll have a healthy heart.
Tomorrow…
Refugees won’t have to struggle through depression alone.
We’ll embrace Indigenous knowledge.
Cities will be smarter, cleaner, greener.
New homes will be more energy efficient and produce less CO2.
Rainwater will pass through permeable pavements into the ground, not out to
sea.
Transport networks will be so well planned and scheduled, toxic emissions
will be insignificant.
Tomorrow…
Traffic lights will coordinate.
Even in the driest state of the driest habitable continent, we’ll manage a
reliable water supply.
And the world’s poorest people will drink clean water. At last.
Tomorrow…
Frogs and bluetongues will flourish in urban gardens.
Farms will be drought-proof.
Tomorrow…
We’ll respond to natural disasters in hours, not days.
And at the end of the year, another 8,000 graduates from more than 100
countries will leave UniSA with the experience and the passion to start
making a difference.
The very next day.
Live.
Work.
Think.
Grow.
Together, that’s how we’ll make a difference.
For all the tomorrows to come.
UniSA.
Experience. The Difference.
