With the increasing popularity of platforms such as Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, and Disney+, there is a current surge in opportunities for filmmakers, visual effects artists, content creators and visual storytellers. In fact, the global streaming marketing is expected to be worth upwards of US$1.69 trillion by 20291.
Our undergraduate degrees are some of the most industry-engaged film, television and visual effects degrees in Australia. Our Film, Television and Visual Effects programs combine practical production, workplace experience and theory, and are created in close consultation with our leading creative industry partners. This combination means you’ll graduate with the relevant skills, knowledge, and connections to walk straight into your Screen career.
Through internships and industry placements you’ll gain collaborative, real-world experience and you’ll finish your studies with a professional standard portfolio of work.
In the Bachelor of Film and Television you'll have the opportunity to undertake up to 40% of your degree at Rising Sun Pictures.
Our range of specialist VFX postgraduate certificates are also offered on location with the team at Rising Sun Pictures in their new CBD studios (with the Graduate Certificate in Dynamic Effects and Lighting offered in Adelaide and Brisbane).
As a Bachelor of Film and Television student, you will also have the opportunity to participate in the unique Film Concept Lab. This one-of-a-kind initiative in Australia offers UniSA students the opportunity to work on live film productions, learning and working directly with industry professionals and We Made a Thing Studios. You’ll even see your name in the film credits at the film’s premier at a major film festival.
Or, if you're an experienced film producer and wanting to expand your knowledge and networks, studying with UniSA will have you in the room with prominent industry execs with our Graduate Certificate in Film and Television.

One summer afternoon back in 1995, Wayne Lewis and a group of mates were drinking at the pub. Little did they know that this meeting would fundamentally change the trajectory of the South Australian film industry.
That day, Rising Sun Pictures was born, and this UniSA grad and UNSTOPPABLE force has been creating some of Hollywood’s most memorable moments ever since, including visual effects for Jungle Cruise, Black Widow, Mortal Kombat, X-Men: Dark Phoenix and the Harry Potter series.

Film and Television studies can lead to all kinds of exciting and diverse careers. Here are just a few:
- director / filmmaker: create, direct or produce feature or short films for cinema, television or online
- creative content producer: shoot and edit content for any industry including sports, real estate and advertising
- visual effects artist: work as a compositor, FX artist, modeller, lighting artist, VFX animator, editor, or production coordinator
- video editor: part of the post production process, video editing can also include working with visual effects
- screenwriter: develop ideas and scripts for film and television productions
- cinematographer / DOP: Coordinate and manage film crews and develop the ‘visual look’ of a production
- film or television producer / production manager: can be in charge of everything from scheduling and budgeting to creative control of a program.

How to apply?
There are a number of ways to apply to study UniSA's undergraduate and postgraduate coursework degrees.
You can access our online International Application System through our How to Apply page. The International Application System is an easy and secure online application and acceptance process. You will have visibility of your application through the secure online portal with the ability to download offer documents, submit your acceptance and make a payment.
Alternatively you can submit an application through one of the University's registered Education Agents.
If you are completing an Australian year 12 qualification in Australia or overseas, or the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme in Australia, you must apply through SATAC http://www.satac.edu.au/.
If you are applying for the UniSA Study Abroad or Study Abroad Plus program, you can submit your application online here.

Is there a closing date for applications?
There is no closing date for submitting your application however the admissions process takes between one and three weeks from the date that we receive your application and all required supporting documentation.
If you are completing an Australian year 12 qualification in Australia or overseas, or the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme in Australia, you must apply through SATAC. Key dates for applications can be found here.

What credit can I receive for previous studies? ?
You may be eligible to receive credit or advanced standing for your chosen UniSA degree based on your previous studies, if they are in a related area at an equivalent or higher level. Receiving credit will reduce the number of courses you undertake within the degree, and may also reduce the overall duration of your degree.
The amount of credit you may be eligible to receive is assessed on a case-by-case basis by the Admissions team.
The best way to determine your eligibility to receive credit or advanced standing is to apply using our International Application System which can be found on our How to Apply page. You will need to supply detailed syllabus documents with your application.
