Student testimonial
Elissa Nieass
Elissa's dream was to study Occupational Therapy, but she knew it would
be competitive.
The USANET special access scheme was an important factor in assisting Elissa to get into her first preference. She knew about the scheme and this encouraged her to try harder at school (Port Pirie High School). Not only did Elissa get her first preference, she was also awarded a UniSA Study Grant.
Elissa's studies are continuing to go really well and she is enjoying everything about her uni experience. Elissa not only focuses on her studies – she tutors 1st year OT students and provides support while they’re finding their feet and also has an active social life outside uni.
Once she has graduated, Elissa plans to move back to Port Pirie or another country area, giving her the opportunity to expand her skills and experience. Her longer term goal is to apply her skills overseas.
Some tips from Elissa for success in your studies:
- Studying at Uni is different from secondary school so make sure you take every opportunity you can to learn how things work before you start
- Be self motivated
- If you need help – ASK! Uni staff are there to help, whether its support for study or for something personal, use the services the Uni has to offer
