Remote access

Welcome to the UniSAinfo Reporting remote access information page.

Access to UniSAinfo Reporting is now available outside the University intranet and can potentially be accessed from anywhere in the world. Once logged on you will have your usual access and be able to manipulate cubes and reports. However, the type of internet connection you use will affect your access response time.

Before connecting remotely it is important you read the following information.

You will be prompted for username and password
Will I be able to remotely access UniSAinfo Reporting if I have dial-up Internet access only?
I have to use a dial up modem, is there anything I can do to improve the performance?
Will UniSAinfo Reporting work with any web browser?
What if I'm in a different time zone?

Any other problems

You will be prompted for username and password

You will be prompted for your username (which will be preceded by a domain) and password.

If your login prompt displays something like my.unisa.edu.au\username, you need to overtype my.unisa.edu.au with uninet so that the username displays uninet\username

Will I be able to remotely access UniSAinfo Reporting if I have dial-up Internet access only?

Yes, you can use a dial-up connection. However, due to the size of the data transfer it is highly advisable to use a DSL or cable (broadband) connection.

The system transfers large amounts of data both when loading the user interface and when opening and manipulating cubes and reports. This takes time. If your access is via dial up-modem, you may need to wait a few minutes for the screen to display correctly each time (a dial-up modem can create a 1 to 2 minute (or longer) delay for each screen to display).

I have to use a dial up modem, is there anything I can do to improve the performance?

It is strongly recommended that you set up and customise, from your office PC, the view of the cubes and reports you need to access. For example, you may wish to view the application and offer summary for an overseas country you are visiting. You can create this customised view from your office PC and retrieve that view outside of the University. This will reduce the data transfer time taken to  manipulate the cube or report when logged on outside of the office.

Will UniSAinfo Reporting work with any web browser?

UniSAinfo Reporting is supported by Internet Explorer 6.0 or higher.

What if I'm in a different time zone

Remote access means UniSAinfo Reporting can be accessed from anywhere in the world. The environment is not necessarily available 24 hours a day 7 days a week, so if you are likely to be using the system whilst in a different time zone, check System availability for scheduled down-times.

Any other problems

Remote access opens up a new world of unknowns in terms of the operational environment under which UniSAinfo Reporting might operate eg differing access, connection speed, user PC configuration, operating system, software versions. These unknowns might mean that, under certain circumstances, the system does not operate as expected.
