The following is a list of terms that are used in UniSAinfo Reporting to qualify the presentation of information found in cubes and reports. The primary system indicates where the term originated from and the type indicates how the term is used.

Course Experience Questionnaire (CEQ)

PAS

A national survey conducted annually of all students who completed the requirements of a higher education program in the previous year. The CEQ survey evaluates graduates’ perceptions of their program experience. The questionnaire asks graduates to respond to 24 questions using a 5-point scale ranging from ‘strongly disagree’ to ‘strongly agree’. A separate series of reports is also produced for Transnational students.

Graduate Course Experience Questionnaire (GCEQ)

Commonly known as CEQ. A national survey conducted annually of all students who completed the requirements of a higher education program in the previous year. The CEQ survey evaluates graduates’ perceptions of their program experience. The questionnaire asks graduates to respond to 24 questions using a 5-point scale ranging from ‘strongly disagree’ to ‘strongly agree’.

Higher Education Contribution Scheme (HECS)

Student

Under the HECS scheme a large part of the cost of a university education for a student in a Commonwealth supported place is borne by the Commonwealth government. The student pays only a contribution toward the overall cost of their program. Under the pre 2005 ‘HECS’ scheme, HECS amounts for different courses were set with three different bands by the Commonwealth government. From 2005, student contributions are set by universities, within limits prescribed by the Commonwealth. Each course of the University is categorised as falling into one of 12 different funding clusters. See changes to HECS and PELS.

Secondary Students - once they have contacted the University they remain in the system as a prospective student. Success rates are the study load passed by a student as a proportion of the load for which the student enrolled in a given year. This gives an indication of success within a year.

Evaluation

In 2005 the Transnational Student Experiences Questionnaire (TSEQ) was developed to obtain feedback from UniSA students studying in countries such as Singapore, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Thailand and Switzerland. The TSEQ and SEQ are designed to provide information to decision makers and to ‘bridge the gap’ between the University’s Course Evaluation Instrument (CEI) and the Course Experience Questionnaire (CEQ).

Women in Non-Traditional Study (WINS) - enrolled in a field of education or level of program for which the percentage of female enrolments is less than 40%. Originally, at a national level, these fields were: Agriculture, Architecture and Building, Business Administration and Economics, Engineering and Surveying, and Science. By 2003 the fields of education at a national level with less than 40% female participation were Architecture, Engineering and Information Technology. In relation to level of program, at a national level research degrees have been identified as WINS.
