Two health experts from UniSA have accepted significant appointments with the National Health and Medical Research Council.
Sansom Institute for Health Research Director Professor Kerin O’Dea AO has been appointed a member of the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) – one of only two appointments to the Council from South Australia – and will chair the NHMRC’s new Prevention and Community Health Committee.
Health Economics Research Chair Professor Leonie Segal has been appointed a member of the NHMRC’s new Health Care Committee.
Prof O’Dea said she was delighted to be one of 18 NHMRC members from around Australia. She was also pleased to be leading one of two new NHMRC committees.
"The NHMRC’s Prevention and Community Health Committee will provide expert advice on promoting and maintaining good health and wellbeing, including such matters as public and environmental health, illness prevention, community and health consumer issues, and healthy ageing," she said.
"I’m looking forward to the challenge."
Prof Segal will help the NHMRC’s Health Care Com- mittee provide advice on applying the results of the best available research to health care in hospitals, surgeries and clinics.
UniSA Deputy Vice Chancellor Research and Innovation Professor Caroline McMillen warmly congratulated Prof O’Dea and Prof Segal on their appointments.
"UniSA has built a reputation as a highly connected, research active organisation making a strong contribution to the community," Prof McMillen said.
