Personalising IT for students

An interactive website for prospective students has earned UniSA international accolades.

The CareerShop online portal provides career and tertiary information that is tailored to each individual. UniSA is the only university in Australia to offer a personalised online environment for prospective students.

From 1200 universities across the UK, USA, Canada and Australia, UniSA’s Domestic Student Recruitment Team received an Innovation Award for their use of Enrolment Management Technology at the annual Hobsons Connect University 2009 conference in Boston.

Manager of Domestic Student Recruitment Darren McInnes said the award was a credit to the many staff involved in CareerShop.

"We have had CareerShop running for only one year and have already had over 3500 prospective students register for a personalised page and this is growing rapidly," says McInnes.

"Since its launch there has been excellent feedback from high school students, Career Counsellors and adults looking to return to study. And the best thing about CareerShop is that it can be customised to suit all of those audiences.

"We are always trying to be innovative in the way we support prospective students, so it is great for the team to be internationally recognised for innovation."

The team has also recently implemented a sophisticated Career Counsellor portal using the CareerShop platform. This provides detailed information to assist Career Counsellors in advising their students.
