In brief
Strong support from DSTO
Six promising first year UniSA students studying the Bachelor of Engineering, Information Technology have been given a step up thanks to scholarships totalling $12,000 from the Defence Science and Technology Organisation (DSTO). The Scholarships were presented by DSTO Deputy Chief Scientist Neill Bryans to Adrian Snell, Jarrad Cody, Alida Jansen, Van Vuuren, Trong Nguyen, Adam Carson and Joshua White at a special ceremony in June.
"DSTO is a major employer of scientists, engineers and information technology specialists. It is vital to the organisation that universities continue to produce high quality graduates," Bryans said.
Marketing excellence awards night
Exposé
2006, the marketing awards night organised by the UniSA Marketing Students
Association, was held in late May.
The annual event showcased the talent and profession of the University's fledgling marketers. Prizes were sponsored by leading industries such as Network Ten, Coca-Cola Amatil and BankSA. The prize for overall academic excellence in marketing was taken out by recent graduate Julie Piekarski (pictured front row, third from left).
Piekarski, who also has a biotechnology degree, is interested in applying her understanding of market dynamics to the overseas healthcare industry. But for now, she is more than satisfied with her challenging role as marketing manager for EzyDVD, Australia's leading specialist DVD retailer. "I manage a team of three people, and between us we provide marketing services to our 70 retail stores across Australia, so it's really a national responsibility."
Piekarski said she felt honoured to receive the award. "It was a culmination of years of hard work, and I'm really happy that it paid off."
Stand up and be counted
On August 8, the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) will be collecting data for its 15th National Census of Population and Housing, the largest statistical collection undertaken by the ABS and one of the most important as it provides a snapshot of everyone in Australia on Census night. That includes international students and tourists.
The data collected is used to inform a range of planning by all levels of government, private institutions and the community.
So, wherever you are staying on Census night, make sure you are counted. All information given on the Census form remains confidential and is not released to anyone outside of the ABS. For more information visit the Census website at www.abs.gov.au/census
