Teaching a new generation

Mark Slatter is part of a new generation of education students who will be making use of the facilities at Mawson Lakes campus.
The 33-year-old from Modbury North has chosen the newly-established primary and middle teaching degree, which will qualify him to teach children in years three to nine.
"I've worked in hospitality for eight years, but got to a point where I needed to look at a more stable career," he says.
"I'm interested in where we're going as a society, and I've thought long about how I can make a difference.
"I've chosen teaching because I love kids and I think being involved in their education is one of the best ways that I can contribute to a better future."
Mark says he chose UniSA not only for the convenience – "it's close to home and a lot less hassle than travelling across town or into the city" – but also because of its progressive curriculum.
"I went along to the information sessions and I was impressed with the school's focus on social justice and sustainability, and where education fits into the global community."
