New telecom links with Europe
The
UniSA-based ARC Communications Research Network (ACoRN) is joining
forces with the European Union Network of Excellence in Wireless
Communications (NEWCOM) in a very promising collaboration that opens the
channels for establishing strong Australian involvement in
communications research with Europe.
The agreement signed between the two networks will enable Australian
researchers to interact with their European counterparts who have a
strategic objective of developing mobile and wireless systems beyond 3G.
This provides an exciting path forward for Australian
telecommunications research, according to ACoRN Network Convenor and
Research Professor Lars Rasmussen from UniSA’s Institute for
Telecommunications Research.
ACoRN brings together more than 150 Australian researchers working in
information and communication technologies both nationally and
internationally.
NEWCOM led by Director Professor Sergio Benedetto, it
includes 61 academic and industry partner organisations from almost all
European Union countries as well as Hungary, Israel, Norway, Poland,
Switzerland and Turkey.
The networks are planning a joint annual workshop, with the first
targeted for May 2006.
