Whyalla campus commended
UniSA's
Whyalla campus was applauded for its contribution to the community at
the recent Upper Spencer Gulf Export Awards.
The campus won the Community Contribution category at the awards ceremony, a plaudit which acting Dean of Whyalla campus Professor Adrian Vicary said was a tribute to the efforts of all staff at the campus.
Prof Vicary said that the award also reflected the growing confidence and support that the campus received for its efforts in the Upper Spencer Gulf region.
“I believe we are making a significant and tangible contribution to the intellectual, social and economic development of the region and winning this award gives us great confidence to continue what we are doing,“ he said.
“Much of our research work is internationally significant, we have programs that support international experiences for students and staff, and we are working to attract more international students to study in the region.“
Prof Vicary said that attracting more on-shore international students to the Upper Spencer Gulf region was about providing unique experiences.
“While the vast majority of international students in South Australia are attracted to Adelaide, there are some that find the smaller, more community based experience offered by Whyalla much more attractive.“
He said the campus had recently made a formal presentation to 17 international agents from Japan, China, India and Kenya who were part of a formal delegation visiting UniSA.
