Rural health school awarded

The Spencer Gulf Rural Health School, based at UniSA's Whyalla campus, was presented with the Whyalla Chamber of Commerce Outstanding Corporate Business of the Year Award at a ceremony on September 17. SGRHS is a joint venture between the University of South Australia and the University of Adelaide, its aim being to conduct education and research to improve the health of rural and remote communities. With a combined annual recurrent income of about $4.5 million, the school has brought in another $4 million in research, project and infrastructure funding since its inception in 2001. Some of its activities include working with regional health services and Indigenous communities to plan and evaluate programs and services, providing placements for undergraduate students, and helping to recruit doctors and health professionals to regional areas. Besides its base at Whyalla, SGRHS has learning centres in Port Lincoln, Port Augusta, Port Pirie, Booleroo Centre, Clare, Kadina and Minlaton.
