In brief
UniSA joins Greenfleet
More
than 480 trees will be planted to offset the greenhouse gas emissions of
UniSA's vehicle fleet. The trees will be planted on behalf of the university
by Greenfleet, a not for profit organisation which for an annual fee of $40
per vehicle, plants and maintains 17 trees to absorb the greenhouse gases
produced by the average car. The director of UniSA's Services Unit, Neville
Thiele, said the move was part of a broader push towards environmental
sustainability. “UniSA signed up to the Australian Government's Greenhouse
Challenge Program in 2001 and is reducing its greenhouse emissions through a
number of initiatives, including the progressive replacement of petrol cars
with LPG vehicles where viable, and participating in the Greenfleet Carbon
Neutral Program,“ he said.
In other environmental news, UniSA has introduced a polystyrene recycling
service. For details visit

Papers sought from postgrads
UniSA postgraduate students are being invited to contribute to a new

Institute is seeking working papers which relate in some way to sustainable
societies or the themes of the institute's research centres, including
gender, equity, work and education, contemporary culture and social policy.
Papers should not have been published elsewhere (but can be submitted for
publication later) and should be submitted by November 22. For more
