Overview
Your weekly lecture can be recorded and, along with a PDF of your lecture notes, be delivered as a podcast or RSS feed.
For an explanation of RSS feeds, see RSS in plain English, a short 4 minute video from the Common Craft Show.
Students can view or listen to the podcast or RSS feed on their computer or download to their iPod or MP3 player.
Students can subscribe to the RSS feed or podcast for their course enabling automatic download of the latest lecture when they logon to their computer. To download podcasts, students will need podcast software (podcatcher) installed on their computer. There are many free podcatchers available on the Internet however, UniSAnet podcasts have been tested with iTunes, and Doppler. RSS feeds can be downloaded automatically with Internet Explorer 7.
A Lecture Recordings page which provides students with instructions on how to subscribe to the RSS feed or podcast will be added to your UniSAnet learning and teaching website.
Copyright information
You need to observe the following copyright protocol if student voices are used in the recording.
- If the recording is to be accessed by students enrolled in the course, then verbal permission from students, prior to making the recording, is required.
- If the recording is to be accessed by non-enrolled students or the audio file is to be sold or made publicly available, even within the University, then each student's written consent to record their voice must be obtained. Please email Copyright Officer Catherine Daniel for permission form.
- If students want to make their own lecture recordings, they must obtain your written consent as well as written consent of other students in the lecture who may have their voice recorded.
Process
Please contact your campus Online Adviser to have the infrastructure created that will allow you to put your lecture audio recordings online and to podcast your lecture notes.
Your Online Adviser will confirm when everything is organised and ask you to send a meeting request to schedule a time for them to visit your office, add a few shortcuts to your PC and take you through the basics of putting your lecture recordings online.
