Academic Dress
Academic dress for graduation ceremonies can be hired from the University. The hire fee is $45.00. You may hire academic address from the University throughout the year.

Assessment
Assessment tasks may include both written assignments and oral presentations. You may also be assessed on your participation in tutorial discussions, conducting interviews and examinations. All assessment items carry a weighting of between about 5% and 70% of the final grade for the course. Information about assessment should be provided within the first two weeks of your course.

AssignIT is provided to enable students to submit assignments electronically. Your Course Coordinator will advise if your assignments are to be submitted via AssignIT.
Assignments submitted through AssignIT are stored securely on the University server and are collected by the staff member for marking. Pronounced “bug” is an acronym for Broadening Undergraduate Education. Grants
The University operates two grant schemes to provide financial support to undergraduate students while studying at UniSA. Unisa student grants are awarded for the length of the full-time program up to a maximum period of 4 years full-time or part-time equivalent, excluding any periods of leave. Applicants must meet all of the eligibility criteria. Students can apply online and applications open in January each for 20 working days and close in March.

If you are currently enrolled and want to postpone your studies for 6 - 12 months, you must complete a Leave of Absence or Withdrawal form and have it authorised by your Program Director. You must drop all your enrolments before submitting the form to Campus Central.
If you are an international student you may only postpone your studies on medical grounds (supported by a doctor's certificate) or in exceptional compassionate circumstances beyond your control such as bereavement. Students may be granted a Leave of Absence on medical or extenuating circumstances for a maximum of 6 months and must seek approval of their program director and an International Adviser from Learning Connection.

Lost Property
Lost property is handled by the Security Office. Articles are recorded and stored in the Security Office. Identification is required to retrieve any item of lost property. Lost property that is not collected within the statutory period is donated to charity.

Plagiarism
At university you are expected to acknowledge all the sources you use in preparing your assignments. Using other people’s words or ideas and presenting them as your own is deemed to be plagiarism.
The Univeristy views plagiarism as academic dishonesty for which you may be penalised. Whether this is deliberate, unintentional or due to ignorance it will still be treated as a serious misdemeanour so it is important you fully understand what plagiarism is and how to avoid it. Security
Security Staff are employed by the University to ensure the safety of students, staff and premises.
Security Offices are located at each campus and officers are on duty 24 hours every day to deal with enquiries and provide assistance and support.
All security staff are trained First Aid Officers and if you are studying or working in the University outside of normal office hours, security staff can escort you through University grounds, buildings, car parks, public transport or any hazardous area.

Special Consideration
If you become
sick during an exam or believe that your performance was affected by
illness, disability through an accident and/or other special circumstances
you can apply for special consideration. Applications for Special
Consideration must be authorised by your course coordinator. Requests for
Special consideration could include a deferred exam, another assessment or
other consideration as decided by the course coordinator.

Student ID
Once you have completed your enrolment you can go to any Campus Central Office to obtain your Student ID.
You will need to produce your Student ID to obtain library loans, special concessions and when you attend examinations. If you lose your Student ID you can have a new one re-issued by Campus Central at a cost of $10.00.
If you turn up for an examination and have forgotten or lost your Student ID you can use your driving licence or another photo ID.

turnitin
Turnitin is a computer program that the University uses to conduct random audits of students’ work to check for plagiarism. Teaching staff may also require you to use Turnitin in their courses to monitor plagiarism.
Every document you submit to Turnitin is stored on the database and used for comparison with other submitted documents. When an assignment is submitted to Turnitin a report is produced identifying any matching text in your assignment to documents already stored in Turnitin or on the internet. The report calculates the percentage of originality in your work.
You can also use Turnitin to check for levels of originality or plagiarism in your own academic writing , such as essays and reports. This is a valuable tool for developing your referencing skills and can be used in conjunction with other referencing tools.
