Professor Michael A P Taylor - Director of the Transport Systems CentreMike Taylor is the Professor of Transportation Planning and the Director of the ISST - Transport Systems, at the University of South Australia in Adelaide, Australia. His expertise is in the areas of transportation, engineering systems and engineering management.

Mike received his BE, MEngSc and PhD degrees at Monash University, where he was an academic on two separate occasions (in the mid-1970s and the mid-1980s). His work experience includes time as a traffic engineer in the Country Roads Board of Victoria, a consultant with the Road Transport Research Program of OECD, and a research scientist in the Division of Building Research of the Australian scientific research organisation CSIRO.

Mike's main research interests lie in the development of Intelligent Transport Systems, including computer modelling of transportation systems, road safety, methods for the collection, monitoring, storage and analysis of traffic and transport data, and the general application of information technology in transportation. His current interests include modelling the environmental, energy, safety and social impacts of road traffic, the use and integration of GPS and GIS technologies for transportation planning, and demand-responsive public transport systems.

Mike is a Fellow of the Institution of Engineers, Australia and the Chartered Institute of Transport, and is a Member of the Institute of Transportation Engineers, the Australian Institute of Traffic Planning and Management, and the Australasian Association for Engineering Education.
