Research capabilities

The Transport Systems Centre is made up of a professional, highly talented team of researchers who are fully versed in the latest technology and have expertise and experience in: 

There are six key groups brought together under the leadership of the centre which results in a dynamic combination of skills in a unique, multi-disciplinary environment.

Transport Fuels and Emissions Unit:
Experimental and theoretical research and development on fuel consumption and emissions for road transport and vehicles.

GPS and GIS Technology Unit:
Researching applications of Global Positioning Systems (GPS) and their integration with Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and remote sensing.

Integrated Logistics Group:
Designing, developing and presenting training systems for management and personnel with responsibility for logistics and related functions; researching and developing technology and systems to improve logistical management systems; developing and maintaining and international database on logistical information.

Scheduling and Control Group:
Researching and developing scheduling and control methods with and emphasis on energy conservation; developing scheduling and control algorithms for use in operational environments.

Transport Policy Research Unit:
Providing policy and management advice to public and private sector organisations on transport; advising on political and organisational factors in developing and implementing policy strategies.

Unit for the Modelling and Analysis of Transport Systems:
Developing models and analysing data for transport planning and engineering, applications in the following areas:
