Welcome to the Transport Systems Centre

The Transport Systems Centre was one of the first two "University Funded Centres" to be established within the University of South Australia in 1992, and is the pre-eminent centre within the University for research, post graduate education and professional training in transport systems and logistics.

The Transport Systems Centre (TSC) is an international centre of excellence in transport and logistics offering:

Road Safety Auditor's Workshop

‘Prevention is better than cure’ is a widely accepted principle that has taken root in the application of road safety audit to road design and traffic engineering, involving checking the design of new roads and road improvement projects for primary safety. Road safety audit is an essential and integral part of the general process of continuous safety monitoring aimed at ensuring the provision of maximum levels of safety for all road users. The particular role of road safety audit is to minimise the potential for future accident problems by anticipating them and thereby initiating pro-active measures that prevent the problem from emerging – ‘get it right the first time’.

CAITR 2007

TSC will be hosting the 29th Conference of Australian Institutes of Transport Research (CAITR 07) between December 5-7, 2007.

The Annual Conference of Australian Institutes of Transport Research (CAITR) draws participants from around Australia. It is usually held in early December and is hosted each year by a different transport research group.

CAITR is a low cost conference which aims to maximise the opportunity for transport researchers to discuss their work with peers and colleagues in a supportive, informal environment and to be part of a network of expertise. CAITR is particularly valuable to recent researchers (PhDs, Masters and Undergraduates by research), giving them the chance to present work in progress, receive constructive feedback and improve presentation skills.

Other events

INSTR2007 - The 3rd International Symposium on Transportation Network Reliability : This conference is being hosted by the Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands between the 19th to the 20th of July 2007.

SOAC2007 will focus on the contemporary form and structure of Australian cities. The over-arching theme of the conference will be:

Growth, Sustainability and Vulnerability of Urban Australia

The conference will be an opportunity for Australian and international academics to explore urban issues in Australia. The purpose of the conference is to report on current research into issues of urban and regional sustainability, to discuss the research with practitioners and policy makers, to identify research gaps and to improve our understanding of the state of Australian cities. It will also contribute to the development of early career researchers and government officers by offering them a forum to critically discuss their research.

The Conference will have four broad themes:

1. To review the condition of the contemporary Australian city, based on current empirical evidence, as a means of better understanding current patterns, processes and drivers of change, including those related to population trends, environmental pressures and globalisation.

2. To identify research gaps and suggest areas that should be given priority for future research funding.

3. To identify and showcase policy relevant research.

4. To provide a space for dialogue between researchers, policy makers and practitioners.

The Conference will provide a focus for new urban scholarship by bringing together the most prominent academics working in this area in Australia with new researchers and others who are interested in the Australian city.

The Conference is aimed at (1) advancing understanding between leading researchers about the state of Australian cities; (2) leading to a better understanding of the research needs of Australian cities; and (3) providing those in the public and private sectors with a better appreciation of the current status of research and the capacities of researchers.

This conference is being jointly hosted by the University of South Australia, the University of Adelaide, and Flinders University and is being held between the 28th and 30th of November..
