Professor Graham Brown, Professor of Tourism Management, School of Management

Professor Graham Brown is the team leader for Understanding the tourism and leisure experience. Professor Brown has an international reputation in tourism, and has published widely on tourism marketing and tourism planning in leading academic journals. Endeavours to understand tourism and leisure experiences have been international in scope and broad ranging in topical coverage. Much of the research has been guided by theories related to relationships between tourism and place identify, and levels of involvement and tourism. Projects related to tourism experiences at events features prominently as another area of research interest and the interdisciplinary appeal of this area is reflected in publications in a range of leisure, sport and tourism journals.
Professor Brown has given presentations at major international conferences, at the invitation of the International Olympic Committee and the World Tourism Organisation. He is a member of the International Scientific Committee for Sport Tourism Development of the Illes Balears Forum and serves as a member of the South Australian government's Tourism Minister's Round Table.
Dr Gary Crilley, Director of CT&LM and Senior Lecturer, Sport and Recreation

Dr Gary Crilley is team leader for the Operational performance in tourism and leisure management theme of the centre.
Gary has held the position of Co-Director of the CERM Performance Indicators project since 1990. Along with Associate Professor Gary Howat, Dr Crilley has developed the most widely used benchmarking program for operational performance for public sports and leisure centres in Australia, and New Zealand. These benchmarks and individual centre reports are based on a suite of performance indicators and on operational data. The program is regarded by various industry sectors as providing the best value benchmarking service for Australia and New Zealand public leisure facilities.
Dr Crilley has a strong publication and presentation record looking at issues relating to organisational performance and customer service quality in a variety of settings. His PhD thesis focussed on managerial qualities required for effective leisure facility managers, and their relationship with organisation's performance.
CERM PI Customer Service Quality surveys and the annual 'CERM PI Bulletin' have become the pre-eminent Australian reference point for operational management and service quality benchmarks for the leisure sector.
Gary retains an applied focus to his research with involvement in regular professional seminars and workshops relating to the use, and testing of issues and models developed from ongoing analysis of the data generated from contracted research projects. One example is the 10 year association, as a course advisor and invited speaker, with Associate Professor David Aldous at the University of Melbourne sponsored National School in Park Management.
Since late 2006, Dr Crilley has been the South Australian network coordinator for the Sustainable Tourism Cooperative Research Centre (ST CRC). He is active in ST CRC state and national research projects. Current projects include studies into visitor data collection for protected area managers, the setting of fees and charges for national park agencies, and benchmarking operations and service quality in caravan and tourist parks.
Gary is an active member of a number of professional associations including, ANZALS (leisure studies), ARAZPA (zoo visitors), AES (evaluations), P&LA (parks and leisure), CAUTHE (tourism) and BGANZ (botanic gardens).
Associate Professor Gary Howat, Co-Director of CERM PI® and Associate Professor in Sport & Recreation, School of Management

Associate Professor Gary Howat has a strong publication record in service quality/customer behaviour in sport and leisure contexts, with a number of articles in leisure management journals.
In addition to journal publications investigating service quality satisfaction and customer behaviour in sports and leisure contexts, A/Prof Gary Howat has also overseen numerous technical reports for industry collaborators, and information from the service quality and customer behaviour research has been disseminated widely within industry.
Associate Professor Howat's role in information dissemination has ranged from invited workshops, seminars, and conference presentations throughout Australia, New Zealand, Taiwan and England, as well as presentations at international conferences (eg. in USA & Sweden). As well, he has written articles for numerous industry and practitioner-based publications.
Associate Professor Vivienne McCabe, Associate Professor in Hospitality Management, School of Management
Vivienne McCabe is the Program Director for the Le Cordon Bleu Master of International Hospitality Management and the LCB Bachelor of Business.
With a strong engagement in the meeting and events sector, Vivienne is recognised nationally as on effective applied researcher.
Dr Duncan Murray, Senior Lecturer in Sport and Recreation, School of Management
Dr Duncan Murray is recognised nationally in the leisure and sport management field for his work in physical activity, body image and exercise dependence. He has been successful in obtaining a grant to examine the personality characteristics that influence exercise addiction and dependence. With his background in psychology, Dr Murray is considered one of the leading quantitative researchers in the sport and leisure field in the country, with an eclectic range of research interests including appearance, service quality, and satisfaction.
Raylene Jones, Research Administrator for CT&LM and CERM Performance Indicators® Project, School of Management
Raylene Jones is a long-term employee of the University of South Australia. Raylene has been employed with the CERM Performance Indicators® Project as a Research Administrator since 1998 and is now incorporating the administration of the Centre for Tourism & Leisure Management into her role.
