Fastest speed clocked on a bike: I clocked 100km/hr in the Tour Down Under going down the hill in the Victor Harbor stage in 2003 – that would be my fastest time. I’ve been over 100km a couple of times, but only just over.

Longest distance on a bike: I raced in the Melbourne to Warnambool last year – and it was 300km. It’s actually the longest race in the world now. It used to be shorter but they made it longer this year. I finished fourth in that race.

Career highlights: Riding in the Giro d’Italia twice in (2004 and 2005) and getting an eighth place in one of the time trials, being 2005 South Australian champion and winning three bronze medals in the National Time Trials (2000, 2001, 2005).

Ambitions for 2006: My aim is to make the Commonwealth Games team.

The Jacob's Creek Tour Down Under

Jacob’s Creek Tour Down Under appearances: 2006 will be my sixth Tour.

How do you prepare for the Tour? I started out doing 1000km a week just getting the base in and in the last few weeks I’ve been doing 800km a week training with some harder intensity to get ready for the Tour.

What do you hope to achieve in the Tour? I’d like to win something, either a jersey or a stage.

Other facts and figures

Someone you look up to: Lleyton Hewitt. I like his aggression and desire to win all the time. In cycling it would be Lance Armstrong. He’s the best Tour de France cyclist ever.

Favourite music: I collect music. What I listen to depends on my mood but I’m into every type of music.

Favourite TV show/film: I like all the Quentin Tarantino movies and I don’t mind a bit of Jim Carrey.

Favourite food: Pizza
