Fastest speed clocked on a bike: Close to a 100 km/hr. Going downhill with a tailwind on Fitz’s Hill out the back of Canberra.
Longest distance on a bike: The Milan-San Remo, it’s around 300km and one of the longest races in cycling.
Career highlights: Winning the Tour of Mallorca (Spain) 2001. I also won the Sachsen-Tour International (Germany) in 2005, although breaking my collarbone within 100 metres of the finish wasn’t the ideal way to celebrate.
Ambitions for 2006: I’d like to do well in the early season classics such as the Paris-Nice and Milan-San Remo.
Jacob’s Creek Tour Down Under appearances: First
How do you prepare for the Tour? I started training in November so it’s mainly weights and a couple of long rides (5 hours). Probably in January I will do a couple of six hour rides in the lead up to the event.
What do you hope to achieve in the Tour? I want to have a good Tour Down Under. I’m happy to be in a strong team. It would be absolutely awesome to win a stage.
Someone you look up to: I admire a few of the older guys in my team (Radobank). I try to take different aspects of the way people race or train and the way they approach the sport and incorporate them into my own personal strategy.
Favourite music: I like listening to Triple J when I’m back in Australia and over the internet when I’m in Europe.
Favourite TV film: Something a bit alternative, like Quentin Tarantino’s movies.
Favourite food: Apples
