Fastest speed clocked on a bike: 103km/hr coming down the
Grossglockner in the Tour of Austria last year.
Longest distance on a bike: I got lost in Spain on a training ride
and ended up cycling for 280km. I had to keep riding as it was a matter
of survival!
Career highlights: Finishing sixth in the Tour of Austria and
third at the Australian championships last year.
Ambitions for 2006: I’d like to get another good result in the
Tour of Austria and hopefully get a chance to ride in the Giro d’Italia.
Jacob’s Creek Tour Down Under appearances: This is my first
Tour Down Under and I’m very much looking forward to it.
How do you prepare for the Tour? Decent kilometres on the bike.
The distances I ride vary from day to day.
What do you hope to achieve in the Tour? A top ten overall
position would be nice as would a top three stage finish. The Tour is
one of these races that is difficult to target stages and target an
overall goal because as we’ve seen in the past, it’s often a matter of
getting in the right breakaway to secure victory.
Someone you look up to: Rob de Castella, he epitomised what
every runner’s dream was – to become one of the best runners in the
world. What he was capable of doing in a marathon was unprecedented as
far as Caucasian men are concerned.
Favourite music: It varies, I’m into lots of different styles and
bands.
Favourite TV film: The Bourne Identity
Favourite food: Anything Italian
