The Skoda Breakaway Series - training

group of Be Active riders in training

Fitness camp

The City East Health and Fitness Centre, run by UniSA's School of Health Sciences is running a TDU fitness camp. TDU Camp is a high intensity training package for all staff, students and general public. It’s 6 weeks of intense training that is designed to challenge all aspects of your health and fitness and give you serious results. There are two options depending on the distance you are training for.

Training rides

Anyone can join in on our UniSA training rides, and don't be put off by thinking you have to keep up with others - the option is there to stay as a group or ride as you wish.

There will be rides for novices interested in the shorter distances, as well as those who are training for the Challenge tour.  Indications of distance and difficulty are given below.

We will have staff volunteers to help and lead rides, planned to be nominally weekly. We plan to provide rides for those training for the Skoda Breakaway Series, including the Fun Tour and Challenge Tour.

If you are going out for a ride either during the week or on the weekend and don’t mind others joining you, let Jeff Kasparian know so that he can advise others – the more that volunteer to help, the more rides that there are for people to enjoy!!

Christmas break

There will almost certainly be some rides during the break period (24 Dec to 2 Jan). These will be included in the near future. Let Jeff Kasparian know if you would like to lead a ride during this time.

Sunday 6 January

Velloway heading south

This total ride will go from the city, down Anzac Hwy to Marian Road and join the Velloway (the track that follows the Southern Expressway). We will then ride the length of the Velloway until it meets South Road, and meander to Port Noarlunga for a coffee and cake. We will return to town by travelling along the beach for a little while, then rejoining the Velloway.

As with others, this ride is for people of all capabilities, but incorporates a reasonable amount of hills and distance. If you just want to join us for a leisurely ride on the flat section along Anzac Hwy and perhaps Marian Rd, then turn back, that is fine.

Obviously for those that are looking for some hills practise etc, the Velloway has some nice bits to practise on. If you stay for the full distance it would be around 70km I’d guess (give or take). You can choose to do less as you like.

Where: Meet at the Rotunda at Elder Park, King William Street, City.

When: Meet from 8:00am for departure at 8:30am sharp.

Contact Jeff Kasparian if you have any questions.

Sunday 13 January

Try out part of the Challenge Tour courses!

Exact details to be confirmed, but mark this in your diaries for those doing the Challenge Tour.

The aim will be to have a ride from Mannum up those nasty hills for those doing the 134 km Challenge Tour distance.  I expect the ride distance will be between 60 to 80 kms, and will start and finish at Mannum.

We will also aim to have a ride happen at the same time around the Woodside area for those entered in the 73 km event – just to try the local area around there.  Ride distance is expected to be around 50 km or so and will start and finish in the same place.
