Typeface

Typeface is a visual element that forms an important part of an organisation's corporate brand. While some organisations devise their own unique typefaces, UniSA has chosen to use a typeface called Frutiger. Frutiger was designed for distinctiveness and legibility in a variety of settings and first used in 1975.

Official University typeface

Print

Frutiger is the official University typeface for use in all forms of printed promotional materials.

The ‘roman’ weight is for normal use, ‘bold’ for headings and ‘italic’ for special emphasis within text. The typeface must not be extended or condensed.

For documents not used to promote the University - official correspondence, documents and reports etc, a sans serif typeface may be used.

If Frutiger fonts are not available within computer applications then Arial is acceptable.

Frutiger is not readily available on University computers. However, the typeface is accessible to graphic designers or copies of Frutiger fonts can be bought for approximately US$20 from websites like Linotype.com or MyFonts.

The official University stationery (staff access only) uses the Frutiger typeface but the body of the letter may be rendered in Arial, Helvetica or Times Roman.

Web

Arial is the default font, as Frutiger is not an available font. The corporate web templates are designed to use Arial. When you open a template in FrontPage, the font type will say Times New Roman. This shows as Arial once you view your page in a browser.
